Research

Research is focused on two different axes, wood heaters and cookstoves, which are the two devices that are the subject of scientific studies. The team’s first studies were about cookstoves, trying to create new fuel-efficient cookstoves to help the populations of war-torn territories, such as Darfur or Ethiopia. More recently the laboratory has also started their research about wood heaters, with the same goal of optimizing them. A similar work to the one done with cookstoves is being done, as research aims to learn more about fuel consumption, efficiency and particulate emissions from these devices.

To be able to create better cookstoves and wood heaters, the Gadgil team conducts daily research in order to learn more about the different aspects of these vital objects. These studies allow the team to understand better what aspects they should focus on and develop the most. These studies could have a huge impact as around the world more than 3 billion people use wood, charcoal, or other crop residues to cook their food and heat their home.
